FIVE COUNTRIES, ONE FESTIVAL
The 4+1 Film Festival is a “Festival of festivals” organized by MAPFRE FOUNDATION and celebrated simultaneously in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Spain and Mexico. The festival’s main purpose is to reclaim some of the most important auteur films of recent times, films that have participated in the world’s most important film competitions and may even have been granted awards by juries, critics or audiences, and yet have not managed to access commercial circuits.
The 4+1 Festival is committed to simultaneity and is programmed as a sort of anthology with the intent of celebrating the power of film as a shared element of cultural enrichment while calling attention to the vital role played by festivals in supporting and promoting artistic films.
In addition to MAPFRE FOUNDATION, several other prestigious film institutions are participating in the festival, including: Sala Leopoldo Lugones in Buenos Aires; the Banco do Brasil Cultural Center in Rio de Janeiro; the Cinemateca Distrital and Cinema Paraíso in Bogotá; Cines Golem in Madrid, and the Cineteca Nacional in México. Each of these institutions is a focal point for independent film in its respective country. The Official Selection will also be available for audiences to screen through the Filmin website, the festival’s online venue.
Each year, one of these cities serves as the Festival’s Official Headquarters and, as such, hosts its Guest of Honor as well as celebrating other formal events.
