I FOCUS ON THAT WHICH INTERESTS ME

Kawase’s first work, having encountered with an 8mm camera for the first time in her life. In the dignified frame, there appear objects which moved Kawase’s feeling and thought. Although those framed objects are uneventful and ordinary, Kawase says, “all the things were fresh discoveries for me, and I really enjoyed walking through the street.”

Although this is a silent film, the pictures draw the audience into the world, the world as if it is filled with the sound of the running river, murmur of the street, and so on. This work tells us that Kawase montages the timing of cut composition and its rhythm.
